Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly has made an impassioned plea for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, condemning the loss of innocent Palestinian lives in Rafah. Addressing the Parliament, Joly emphasized that the killing of civilians is utterly unacceptable.
Speaking firmly in the House of Commons, Joly reiterated Canada’s stance on the ongoing conflict, underscoring the nation’s commitment to international judicial decisions. “Our position on the Rafah operation has been clear for weeks. The massacre of innocent Palestinians is unacceptable, and we adhere to the rulings of international courts,” she stated.
Joly called for an immediate halt to hostilities, stressing that even in times of war, there are humanitarian principles that must be upheld. “The scenes we have witnessed in Rafah are horrifying. There are no longer any safe places for Palestinians,” she said, her voice laden with concern.
Highlighting the devastating situation in Palestine, Joly addressed the Speaker directly, saying, “The current state in Palestine is catastrophic. This is why we are urgently demanding a ceasefire.” Her remarks were met with widespread attention, reflecting the urgency of the humanitarian crisis.
Following her parliamentary address, Joly took to social media to amplify her message. On her official account, she posted, “We are deeply disturbed by the civilian deaths caused by Israeli bombings in Rafah. Canada does not support any military operations by Israeli forces in Rafah.”
