Founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, has spoken out for the first time regarding the recent arrest of former ISI chief Faiz Hameed. Speaking to journalists at Adiala Jail, Khan firmly denied any connections to Hameed’s arrest, stating, “I have no connections with Faiz Hameed’s arrest.”
On Monday, the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), announced that Faiz Hameed had been taken into custody over serious allegations, including land grabbing and stealing valuables from the owner of Top City Housing Society. The ISPR further revealed that court-martial proceedings have been initiated against the former spymaster, who was once a close ally of the former prime minister.
Despite the allegations, Khan did not hold back from criticizing the military’s handling of Hameed’s situation. He described Hameed as “an asset that was wasted,” expressing disappointment over how the military treated someone who had been of significant value to the nation.
Khan emphasized the importance of accountability but stressed that it should be “across-the-board accountability.” Reflecting on past events, Khan recalled how former army chief Gen Bajwa removed Hameed from his position, allegedly under pressure from Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif. This, according to Khan, led to a heated exchange between him and Gen Bajwa, signaling the strained relationship between the political and military leadership at the time.
