China has put forward several proposals to Pakistan, including a joint agreement to address growing concerns over terrorism that threaten Chinese workers involved in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). These initiatives aim to safeguard the multibillion-dollar project, which is pivotal for both nations.
According to government sources, China is seeking to elevate various CPEC Phase-1 projects to Phase-2, signaling an intent to deepen collaboration and enhance development across multiple sectors. One significant proposal is the creation of a joint security company to protect Chinese nationals working in Pakistan, ensuring their safety as they contribute to the ongoing projects.
Both China and Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling terrorism with “zero tolerance.” They emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach to deal with security issues, reflecting their shared resolve to maintain stability in the region.
Moreover, China has proposed an agreement on a China-Pakistan earth science research project as part of CPEC’s second phase. This expansion into new areas like infrastructure, minerals, energy, and science and technology demonstrates China’s vision for a broader partnership with Pakistan, one that goes beyond economic development.
