Richard Dalton, the late Princess Diana’s former hairdresser, has stepped into the limelight to clarify the long-standing rumors surrounding Prince Harry’s paternity in a new memoir.
For years, whispers suggested that James Hewitt, Diana’s riding instructor, might be Harry’s biological father instead of King Charles, primarily due to their shared traits of ginger hair and freckles.
Dalton, who shares a deep bond with Diana, recounts his experiences in It’s All About the Hair. In an interview with Fox News Digital, he emphatically stated, “It’s not possible.” He explained that Prince Harry was born in 1984, two years before Diana even met Hewitt. “It was tough… Harry was already born a while before her relationship with Hewitt. And I don’t think it’s possible.” To bolster his argument, Dalton noted that both of Diana’s siblings also shared the same bright red hair. “Charles, Diana’s brother, had bright red hair in college,” he added, reflecting on his days styling their hair.
The memoir reveals that Diana was deeply hurt by the persistent rumors linking Hewitt to Harry’s paternity, stating that the red hair was a family trait of the Spencers. Dalton mentions that Diana and Hewitt’s romance blossomed between 1989 and 1991, years after Harry’s birth.
In 2022, Harry himself took legal action against a media outlet for invasive reporting on his life, dismissing the rumors. “Numerous newspapers had reported a rumor that my biological father was James Hewitt,” he stated. “At the time of this article, I wasn’t aware that my mother hadn’t met Major Hewitt until after I was born.” Similarly, Hewitt has consistently denied these claims, affirming, “There really is no possibility whatsoever that I am Harry’s father.”
