Babar Azam has officially stepped down from his role as the captain of the Pakistan cricket team. In a heartfelt message shared on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), Babar expressed that he has made this decision to focus on his role as a player and to spend more time with his family.
Reflecting on his journey, Babar mentioned, “I take pride in what I have achieved so far and am fully prepared to fulfill my responsibilities as a player moving forward.” His words convey a sense of accomplishment, yet they also highlight the importance of personal growth and balance between career and family.
It is worth noting that Babar had stepped down from the captaincy of all formats in November last year after Pakistan’s disappointing World Cup performance. Following his resignation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Shaheen Afridi as the captain for T20s and Shan Masood as the Test captain. However, no decision was made regarding the ODI captaincy at the time.
Earlier this year, in March, Babar Azam was once again entrusted with the leadership of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team, a role he now relinquishes for the second time.
