The Pakistan People Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that if the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) Bill was passed despite the reservations of the opposition, then we will not accept the next election.
Addressing a joint sitting of parliament on Wednesday, Bilawal Bhutto slammed the government for passing legislation on EVM without taking the opposition on board. He said that it would be impossible for the government to arrange for perfect EVM as only two years are remaining in the next election. He said that the PPP will challenge the EVM in the Supreme Court.
Bilawal also slammed the government for legislation to grant ‘NRO’ to Indian spy in Pakistani prison.
The joint session of parliament was attended by members including Prime Minister Imran Khan, Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif and Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. A total of 29 Bills will be introduced in the joint sitting of Parliament which also includes Electoral Amendment Bill 2021. Law Minister Farogh Naseem will present the bill relating to Kulbhushan Jadhav and International Court of Justice. The government claims that the bill can be easily passed while the opposition claimed that they will not allow the passage of bills from the parliament.
A joint meeting was also called on November 11 but was canceled due to concerns of some government allies. On November 15, federal ministers Fawad Chaudhry and Sheikh Rashid claimed that the coalition parties’ concerns had been removed in a meeting with the prime minister and that they would now support the government.
