KP forms panel for devising strategy for making smart lockdown more effective
More than 537,000 people to be under smart lockdown as KP decides to seal 240 areas

PESHAWAR: A high level meeting to review the smart lockdown situation was held here Monday with Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in the chair.
Various matter related to the smart lockdown strategy to contain the mass scale outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic by smartly managing the specific hotspot came under discussion.
The meeting stressed need to make the smart lockdown more effective specially in the hotspot areas of the provincial capital and decided to form a team headed by provincial minister for Health Taimur Saleem Jhagra with membership of Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, CCPO Peshawar and other relevant quarters to devise a workable strategy to this effect in consultation with the elected representatives of the areas.
The strategy thus devised will be presented to the Provincial Task Force on coronavirus in its next meeting to be held in next couple of days.
Nearly 537,010 people will be under lockdown in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 240 areas after the provincial government decided to seal areas in the province to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
According to a report sent to the KP chief secretary on Monday, “smart lockdown” has been imposed in 240 areas to curb the spread of the virus as the number of cases in the COVID-19 hotspots rise to 2,305.
In the Malakand division, 137 affected areas have been put under a “smart lockdown” while in Bannu, nine areas are under the stringent measures to stop the spread of the disease.
In Dera Ismail Khan and Hazara division, seven and 25 areas are under "smart lockdown", respectively, while in Kohat and Mardan, 15 and 13 areas are observing “smart lockdown’, the report said.
It added in Peshawar division, around 34 areas are observing the lockdown measures.
After receiving the report, the chief secretary urged the people to cooperate with the administration during this time.
As of Monday, KP has recorded nearly 22,000 virus cases and more than 800 deaths.
Over 9m population restricted under 549 targeted lockdowns: NCOC
Meanwhile, National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) Monday said around 549 smart or targeted lockdowns were imposed across the country in all the provinces including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) where 9,093,818 people were restricted in the lockdown areas.
According to the NCOC, in Punjab around 184 targeted lockdowns were imposed in various districts where around 2 million population was restricted.
In Sindh, as many as 68 locations in different districts were under smart lockdown where 4,951,000 people were restricted.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 232 smart lockdowns were imposed in various districts where 534,110 people were restricted.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), around 40 locations were imposed under smart lockdown whereas four other districts of AJK were under complete lockdown where 1,502,548 people were restricted.
In Islamabad Capital Territory (lCT), as many as 10 smart lockdowns were imposed whereas 90,000 people were restricted.
In GB, around 16 locations were imposed under smart lockdown whereas 16,160 people were restricted.
It merits mention here that the targeted or smart lockdowns were imposed in the areas with maximum coronavirus patients being reported, whereas the main focus was to restrict infected masses to contain the risk of coronavirus outbreak.
