Post mortem report declares cause of leopard’s death in Galiyat as ‘natural’
PESHAWAR: A common leopard found dead a couple of days earlier in forest of Galiyat was diagnosed as dying of natural causes and not due to killing by poachers or in retaliation by locals to livestock depredation.
The dead leopard was found within the premises of Ayubia National Park in Galiyat and as news went viral on media people started expressing concern over loss of rare big cat.
“The Wildlife Department forthwith took possession of the carcass of the dead leopard and sent body parts to Veterinary Research and Disease Investigation Center Abbotabad for post mortem examination,” informed Muhammad Niaz, Divisional Wildlife Officer (DFO) KP Wildlife Department.
"However, the postmortem report declared the death of the animal as natural. The animal was also believed to be 15 years old which is normal age of big cat in natural habitat," Niaz told APP. He said the body of the leopard was found from Ayubia National Park which also authenticates the fact the animal was not killed because ordinary people were not allowed to enter the park without permission. - APP
