PTI secures two-thirds majority in GB Assembly

GILGIT: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday secured a two-thirds majority in the Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly after six independent candidates announced to join the party.

It is pertinent to mention here that seven candidates secured success in the Gilgit Baltistan polls as an independent candidate and six of them have so far joined the PTI, giving it the numbers in the legislative assembly to achieve the two-thirds majority in the house of 24 members.

According to details, a member of the GBLA, Haji Shah Baig, who secured a win on GB-15 Diamer 1 in the recently held polls, announced on Friday to join PTI.

The new induction raised the number of PTI members in the legislative assembly to 16 including the six independent candidates, besides also having the support of the Majlis-e-Wahdat Ul Muslimeen (MWM), which secured a seat during the polls.

Earlier, five independent candidates, who were declared winners, have joined the party. According to details, Wazir Muhammad Saleem was declared winner from GBLA-9, Skardu-III, as an independent candidate. He announced to join PTI after a meeting with the Chief Organiser PTI Saifullah Khan, in which Federal Minister For GB and Kashmir Affairs Ali Amin Gandapur, governor GB, and other senior PTI leaders were also present.

Earlier, Nasir Ali Khan, a victorious independent candidate from GBLA-10 also joined PTI, whereas the other two independent candidates, Mushtaque Hussain and Haji Abdul Hameed have also announced to join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. - TLTP
