MQM fugitive leader granted protective bail

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday granted protective bail to Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) absconding leader Muhammad Adil Siddiqui on a plea seeking protective bail before possible arrest by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a corruption reference.

A high court bench was moved by Muhammad Adil Siddiqui to avoid the possible arrest in NAB reference. The court granted protective bail to Siddiqui and ordered him to submit a surety bond of Rs0.5 million. The court issued notices to Special Public Prosecutor NAB and others.

A case is pending against MQM leader in Accountability Court No. 2 in Karachi. The petitioner’s lawyer, Khwaja Altaf, argued that the accused was living abroad but has returned and wants to join the investigation, but he is worried about arrest by NAB. The lawyer pleaded with the court that NAB should be stopped from arresting him. - PPI
