Hafeez asks provinces to control increase in food prices

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has urged the provincial governments to strictly monitor rates of various commodities to ensure availability of essential items for the consumers at affordable prices.

Chairing a meeting of the National Price Monitoring Committee in the federal capital on Monday, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh asked the provincial governments and all other concerned authorities to take immediate proactive measures to control the increase in prices.

The meeting reviewed the price trend of the essential commodities including wheat flour, sugar, tomatoes and onions on a weekly basis.

The meeting was briefed that sufficient quantities are available in the country. The finance secretary while presenting the price trend of essential commodities informed that according to the latest SPI released by PBS, there is decline in the prices of wheat flour, sugar, onions while the prices of tomatoes, potatoes and chicken have slightly increased. - TLTP
