PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) said that a top ISIS [Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant] has been killed during an operation in Balochistan’s Mastung district on 26 September.
The ‘terrorist’ was identified as Mumtaz Ahmed alias Pahlawan who was involved in major attacks in Balochistan. Sources said that after the police apprehended his sister and other members of his family, he had attacked a school van in Quetta in June, threatened local officials with more attacks if his family members were not released.

The officials have confirmed that the operation was carried out by counter terrorism department in village Mehrab in the Kank area of Mastung, near Quetta, where the ‘high profile ‘terrorist’ was killed after two days long operation. The intelligence agencies, CTD and Frontier Corps also took part in the operation.
During the operation, which took place between Saturday and Sunday, there was an exchange of fire for several hours. According to CTD, the Balochistan government had set the price of the head of slain ISIS commander Mumtaz Ahmed at Rs2 million. He was one of the first and most important commanders of ISIS Balochistan. He was also known as Alam, Pehlwan and Mota. He was also accused of killing former Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani’s younger brother and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) leader Siraj Raisani in a blast. According to the CTD officials, the slain ISIS commander was wanted in dozens of terror attacks, including the brutal killing of Hazara miners in Machh, attacks on security forces in Quetta, Mastung and Bolan, sectarian targeted killings and bombings in Balochistan.
On the other hand, according to the Pakistan Army spokesman, a clearance operation was carried out on the information of presence of terrorists in Dosali area of South Waziristan. A statement from ISPR said that one terrorist was killed in the exchange of fire during the operation.
