Ali’s two innings in two T20 World Cup matches made him the first choice of the cricket fans from across the world. He scored 27 off 12 balls in the match against New Zealand while in the match against Afghanistan; Ali hit four sixes and secured victory for Pakistan. His strike rate was 273.68.
Former India bowler Irfan Pathan, who is a member of the ICC’s voting academy, said that although Ali scored considerably less runs than other two players but “winning from the jaws of defeat makes Asif Ali special.” Commenting on his aggressive batting against Afghanistan and New Zealand, Pathan said that Asif Ali had twice won matches for his team in T20 world cup.
