PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has approved to setup the Project Management Unit (PMU) for the early implementation of the new Peshawar city project – the largest residential project in the province.
The seventh meeting of Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) board was held under Chief Minister Mahmood Khan which granted approval to setup PMU so that the project can be started as soon as possible. The board meeting also approved to rename the proposed Gandhara Valley city as New Peshawar city.

The Chief Minister called upon the PDA to fill key posts of the project management unit. These key positions include four of Project manager , deputy project manager and four of Assistant Project Manager and seven land revenue experts. The Chief Minister directed to recruit experts and professionals in this field from the market and finalise rules and regulations without further delay.
The proposed city will cover an area of 108000 kanals. In addition to the media enclave and the provincial secretariat, the city will host residential plots as well as commercial centers. The government claims that every possible effort will be made to provide modern facilities of life. The government has already started purchase of land for the project under ‘land sharing’ formula. The services of consultant have been hired for the preparation of the master plan of the project by April next year. Commissioner Peshawar has been assigned the special responsibility of overseeing all matters related to the project.
The meeting also focused on improving the efficiency of PDA and the delivery of services. The board also approved 55 kanals of additional land in Hayatabad for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy while 40 kanals of land was approved for the forensic science laboratory in Regi Model town. The Board also decided to formulate a uniform policy for the installation of cellular companies’ towers in KP.
