PESHAWAR: At least 12 persons were killed and several other injured in gas pipeline explosion near Sher Shah Paracha Bridge in Karachi.
As soon as the blast was reported, police, rescue and bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot and the injured were shifted to Civil Hospital while the area was cordoned off for further investigation. According to the rescue, 12 deaths have been confirmed so far while 12 injured people have been shifted to different hospitals, whose condition is critical.
The medical superintendent of Civil Hospital Dr Sabir Memon said that 12 people were killed in the Sher Shah blast, and all the dead had injuries on their upper body. According to the spokesman of the Karachi Police, initial investigation show that it was a gas pipeline explosion. A bomb disposal squad has been called in to investigate the nature of the blast.
A statement issued by Sindh Rangers said that Rangers have reached the spot and cordoned off the area. On the other hand, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the blast and ordered Commissioner Karachi to conduct a detailed inquiry. Sindh Governor Imran Ismail also expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in the blast and demanded a detailed report from Additional IG Karachi and Commissioner Karachi.
