PESHAWAR: With the competition of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Local government elections’s first phase, the Jamiat-e-UIema Islam-Fazl (JUIF) is leading the province with 23 Tehsils followed by the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with 19 Tehsils.
Independent candidates have secured a total of ten Tehsil and are on the third position while the Awami National Party (ANP) has secured six, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) three, Jamaat-e-Islam two, Tehreek-e-Istiqlal Pakistan (TIP) two and the Pakistan Peoples Party has won 1 Tehsil.

In yesterday’s [13 February] re-election in 19 tehsils, JUIF secured victory on for more seats, the ruling PTI and independent candidates won three seats each while the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and TIP won one seat each. Polling and re-polling took place in 568 polling stations in 13 districts of during yesterday’s elections. The elections were also held villages and Neighborhood Council candidates in Charsadda Mardan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat and Bajaur.
In the first phase, local government elections were held in 65 out of 66 tehsil councils of 17 districts. The election in one tehsil council was postponed due to the murder of a candidate a day ahead of election on 18 December.
After his election victory, the federal minister Ali Amin Gandapur has said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman will have realized his status in Dera Ismail Khan. Talking to media, he said that the JUI-F was making a lot of noise but no one is ready vote even in his own district. He also alleged that JUI-F and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers have also caught red handed casting fake votes. Federal minister Asad Umar said on Twitter the JUIF chief cannot win in his home constituency but trying overthrowing the government.
Umar said that after the general elections, the PTI has also defeated the JUI-F in local government election in DI Khan.
