PESHAWAR: Mutahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Central Coordination Committee on Wednesday ratified the agreement with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), breaking its alliance with the PTI government in the center.
The meeting of the MQM Coordinating Committee was held under its chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui at the Parliament Lodges in Islamabad in which the agreement between the two parties was reviewed. Talking to Geo News after the meeting, Syed Aminul Haq confirmed that the committee has granted green light to the agreement. Haq added that MQM-P ministers have sent their resignations to Prime Minister Imran Khan.

After the late night talks, the agreement between the two parties was signed by Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Akhtar Mengal and Khalid Magsi. Under the agreement, MQM will secede from the federal cabinet and in return powers of local government in Sindh will be increased.
Under the agreement, the Sindh government will present the draft amendment to the LG law in the provincial assembly in a month. MQM will become PPP’s ally in Sindh and will also be provided representation in the Public Service Commission. Sources added that issues relating to quota system, census and jobs have also been settled between the two parties.
After the separation of MQM from the government, the number of ruling coalition will reduce to 164 against the 177 of the opposition alliance.
The MQM-Pakistan had made three demands from the PTI, however, it failed to address them. Sources said that the demands included the re-opening of MQM offices in Karachi and other districts. The MQM had also asked for the return of more than 100 “missing” persons but no progress was made. The party had also asked for withdrawn the “unjust” terrorism cases against its leadership and workers. However, none of the demands was fulfilled.
The MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari claimed that there was no demands for ministries and governor position neither it has been included in the agreement.
