Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has unveiled an ambitious project to build a rail network from Israel to Saudi Arabia. This massive expansion project, estimated to cost $27 billion, aims to connect distant regions to Tel Aviv and expand its reach all the way to Saudi Arabia.
Netanyahu’s announcement comes after recent periods of turmoil in Saudi Arabia with American officials, hinting at possible measures towards formal relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
The ongoing political instability in Israel has disrupted the economy and left its western allies struggling for the past few months. Netanyahu, including “One Israeli Project,” is now focusing on fundamental infrastructure plans.
The project’s objective is to reduce travel times in core business and government regions by two hours.
In his address, Netanyahu further stated that in the future, the railway could potentially facilitate transportation of goods from Eilat to the Red Sea and expand train services to Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Peninsula.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has expressed hope that this high-speed rail project, stretching from north to south, could become operational by the next decade.
