Islamabad’s District and Sessions Court has granted interim bail until August 7 to central suspect Somiya Asim, accused of assaulting a young domestic worker, Rizwana, in exchange for a hefty sum of Rs. 100,000.
On Tuesday, the prime suspect in the Rizwana assault case sought pre-arrest bail from the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad. Meanwhile, a medical board will review Rizwana’s treatment and medication change at Lahore General Hospital. Punjab’s Chief Minister has personally contacted the Prime Minister regarding the matter.
The court was urged in the bail application to consider that Somiya had never targeted Rizwana for violence, and the court accepted the pre-arrest bail request.
The application further claimed that Somiya is an educated individual and the wife of a judge. Though she indeed worked at Rizwana’s parents’ place willingly, the contents of the FIR are false.
Previously, The Lahore High Court had previously granted protective bail to the accused until August 1.
