A shocking case of murder has come to light from Goa, where a woman who runs an AI startup in Bengaluru allegedly killed her four-year-old son and tried to escape with his body in a bag. The woman, identified as Suchana Seth, is the CEO of The Mindful AI Lab, a company that claims to provide AI solutions for mental health and wellness.
According to the police, Seth checked into a luxury hotel in Candolim, Goa, with her son on Saturday. She checked out on Monday morning, leaving behind blood stains in the room. The hotel staff alerted the police, who checked the CCTV footage and found that Seth had left without her son. They also found that she had booked a cab to Bengaluru, despite being advised to take a flight instead.
The police contacted the cab driver and asked him to take Seth to the nearest police station in Chitradurga, Karnataka, where they found the body of her son in her luggage. Seth was arrested and brought back to Goa for further investigation. The police suspect that she killed her son by strangling him or smothering him with a pillow.
The motive behind the murder is not clear yet. Seth’s husband, Venkat Raman, who works as an AI developer in Indonesia, has been asked to come to India. The police are also probing Seth’s mental health and background, as well as her company’s activities and finances.
Seth’s case has shocked the AI community in India, as well as the public, who are wondering what drove her to commit such a heinous crime. Seth’s company website says that she is a “passionate AI researcher and entrepreneur” who has a PhD in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley. She also claims to have worked with Google, Microsoft, and IBM on various AI projects.
The Mindful AI Lab, which was founded in 2022, says that it aims to “create AI systems that can understand human emotions, personality, and behavior, and provide personalized interventions for mental health and wellness”. The company also says that it has partnered with several NGOs, hospitals, and schools to provide its services.
However, some experts have raised doubts about the credibility and ethics of Seth’s company and its products. They have questioned the validity of the data and algorithms used by the company, as well as the privacy and security of the users. They have also warned about the potential risks and harms of using AI for mental health, especially without proper regulation and oversight.
Seth’s case is a grim reminder of the dark side of AI, and the need for more awareness and caution among the users and developers of this technology.
