The recent series of Israeli attacks has prompted the United Nations to announce the closure of the Rafah crossing point and goods entry.
The United Nations has taken a stand in response to the Israeli raids, with the closure of the Rafah border gate and goods passage, as reported by a reputable international news agency. According to Jens Laerke, the spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the Rafah border gate, where Israeli forces conducted a ground assault on the city of Rafah in Gaza and seized control, has been shut down for both crossings and goods entry.
During a weekly press conference at the UN’s Geneva office, Laerke emphasized that the Rafah checkpoint is currently under Israeli military control, leading to its closure for both directions of passage and goods entry.
Laerke further stated that there is currently no way for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza through the Kerem Shalom border crossing, indicating that two vital routes for aiding Gaza are currently closed.
On another front, negotiations for a Gaza ceasefire are ongoing in Cairo, Egypt, involving Qatar, Egypt, Hamas, and the United States. Egyptian media reports suggest that Israel has also sent its delegation to Cairo for the talks, with the head of the American intelligence agency, William Burns, present in Cairo as well.
According to Egyptian media sources, efforts are being made to finalize an agreement based on Hamas’ proposed suggestions, although consensus between Hamas and Israel has not yet been reached.
