The discovery of a fatal Congo virus outbreak in Rawalpindi has left the community in shock and mourning. Last month, three patients were rushed from Attock to BBH Hospital Rawalpindi, where unfortunately, two individuals succumbed to the virus, with one patient’s condition still critical.
In response to the spreading threat of the Congo virus, authorities have imposed restrictions on the movement of livestock from affected areas to other regions. Last month, three Congo-infected patients from Attock were transferred to Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi, where two lost their lives, leaving one in critical condition.
Doctors warn that the Congo virus, with only 10% survival rate, is highly contagious, transmitted from animals to humans and between humans. Symptoms include bleeding from mucous membranes, nose, and gums, along with high fever. Patients infected with the Congo virus require intensive care and monitoring to improve their chances of survival.
The outbreak has prompted health officials to intensify surveillance and precautionary measures to contain the spread of the virus within the region and prevent further casualties.
