Peshawar: The protest ‘long march’ of the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) reached Gujranwala as the federal government has called rangers force to avert the protests from reaching the federal capital.
The Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar has convened the meeting to review the law and order situation in the province. Police personnel have been deployed on the procession routes and the road between Kamoke and Gujranwala has been closed with containers. Meanwhile the police said that a police constable, who was injured in a clash with protesters of the banned outfit, has died at the hospital. Thus, the number of Punjab police personnel killed has risen to five since the TLP has launched the long march.

According to local journalists, a large number of police personnel have been deployedbet ween Gujranwala and Kāmoke on Thursday morning while an emergency has been declared in all hospitals in Lahore.
On Wednesday, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed had said that the government had decided to call Rangers in Punjab for 60 days to deal with the TLP protestors. Briefing the media after the meeting of the federal cabinet, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that “now it is up to the Punjab government where it deploys the Rangers.”

Yesterday, the government declared the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik-Pakistan (TLP) militant organisation and vowed strict action. Addressing a press conference, minister for information Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that strict legal action would be taken against TLP fort challenging the state writes. He said that an important meeting was held under Prime Minister Imran Khan which was attended by the military leadership and it was decided that the TLP is militant organisation and strict action will be taken to avert its protest march on Islamabad.
