PESHAWAR: Federal Information Minister Shibli Faraz has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will change its strategy for the upcoming elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) after it failed to secure majority tehsil mayor seats in local government elections in 17 districts of the province.
Talking to media in Peshawar on Monday, Shibli Faraz said that the performance of the party in the local government elections was not bad. “JUI-F has been successful in some places where the PTI could not mobilize its political workers,” the minister said while talking to media.

“When we analyze the local government elections, it is clear that party discipline must be maintained in all cases. We will restore party discipline even if it causes temporary damage,” Faraz said. He added that there is also a need to mobilize the party organizations at the grassroots level and to bring it under the control of the workers which is the real asset of the party. The minister said that the PTI has the chance to look at its strategy and address its weaknesses.
According to the preliminary results of the Local Government (LG) elections held in 17 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on 19 December, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl – (JUI-F) is leading with 19 Tehsil seats while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stands second with 15 seats.
The Awami National Party secured eight tehsils seat, Jamaat-e-Islami has two seats, Independent candidates 12 tehsil seats, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz secured two seats. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) could not win victory on any seat.
In Peshawar, The JUI-F candidate Zubair Ali was leading followed by Rizwan Bangash of PTI. The unofficial results show that the Awami National Party (ANP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam – Fazl (JUI-F) have secured victories on city mayor seat in Mardan and Kohat respectively.
