PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Sunday claimed to have apprehended two members of the Islamic State (IS) terror group in Peshawar.
The KP police said the CTD had received a tip-off that terrorists associated with the international terrorist organisation, IS, were moving from Khyber to Peshawar for terror activities in the provincial capital.

The Counterterrorism Department Peshawar’s Special squad set up a check point at Takhta Beg area in Jamrud as a results three suspected were apprehended who were identified as Abdul Wahid and Hazrat Khan. The police informed that two hand grenades, two 30 bore pistols and large quantity of ammunition were recovered from their possession.
The CTD has registered a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 and appointed an investigation team to further interrogate the suspects. The CTD officials hoped that more revelations are expected from the accused.
Similarly, the KP police and intelligence agencies claimed to have foiled a major terror plot and recovered 20 maund of explosives from Badhaber area. The police said that 157 detonators, 110 safety fuse and 10 Kalashnikov rifles were also recovered from their possession of the three terrorists. The police said that they were planning to attack sensitive government building, religious sites and security forces. The police aid that further investigation in the case is underway.
On 19 February, At least three policemen were injured in grenade attack on Peshawar’s Phandu Police Station by unidentified militants who easily escaped after committing the crime. The Police said that unidentified militants hurled two grenades at the police station that has caused minor damage to the police station building and parked motorcycles. The attackers managed to flee after the grenade attack while police has registered a case against unknown attackers.
The wounded policemen were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) and two personnel were discharged after treatment. LRH officials said that the third injured personnel is also out of danger.
