PESHAWAR: Russia has warned of ‘catastrophic’ fallout and closure of main gas supply pipeline to Germany if the West banned its oil import.
Reuters has reported that there has been no progress in talks since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine but Russian news agencies stated that there has been some progress in the talks. The invasion has forced more than 1.7 million Ukrainians to flee their country. Russia on Monday offered a ceasefire in some cities for civilians’ safe passage to Belarus and Russia, but Kiev rejected the offer.

The US and its allies are considering imposing a ban on Russian oil imports to put more pressures on Moscow. But Russian Vice President Alexander Novak has warned that if Russia’s oil supply was stopped it will have catastrophic consequences. President Biden in video conference with France, Germany and Britain will soon discuss the plan.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 and vowed that fighting will continue until Kiev surrender. War raged between on Sunday and Monday night, leaving 20,000 people trapped in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol. According to Reuters, Water and electricity have also been cut off due to intense fighting.
The United Nations has said that 364 civilians, including 20 children, have been killed, and hundreds more injured since the February 24. The UN most of the deaths were caused by bombings and on Sunday more than 1.5 million people had fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion.
Ukraine has filed a lawsuit against Russia’s invasion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), saying “Putin’s allegations of genocide are based on misinterpretations.” President Vladimir Putin said a few days ago that “Russia’s military action was necessary to stop genocide in eastern Ukraine.”
The court held a two-day hearing on emergency grounds, but the Russian diplomat wrote to the court that his “government does not intend to attend the hearing.” Russia has been asked to respond to the case on Tuesday.
