PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police Counter Terrorism Department said that 72 terror attacks were carried out across the province in past three months.
The CTD said in its quarterly report that during this time, 19 terrorists were killed in 644 intelligence-based operations. The report said that a major operation – Operation Silence – was carried out in Khyber border area. The report added that facilitators involved in Kocha Risaldar suicide attack were also killed during security operation.

According to the CTD, 10 incidents of targeted killings and 15 extortion cases were reported and 59 wanted criminals and nine terrorists were arrested during the operation. The report said that 65 kg of explosives, 76 grenades, a suicide vest, 10 SMG guns and 36 RPG shells were also recovered during the operations.
Earlier, in another report, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police said that during 2021, 90 percent of terrorist attacks in the province were operated by militant groups hiding in Afghanistan. The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Javed Iqbal Wazir, while briefing the media about the police performance in 2021, said that during 2021, 48 policemen were martyred while 44 injured in attacks and operations against terrorists.
Wazir informed that 599 high profile terrorists were apprehended and 110 were killed in police operations. The police official further informed that during the outgoing year, 44 polio vaccination teams came under attacked. In 2021, three suicide attacks were occurred, including the attack in Dasu in which several Chines engineers working on mega dam project were killed in the attack. The police data shows that 44 cases of extortion were registered in which 31 persons were arrested.
