Islamabad: The Ministry of Interior has demanded to postpone the by-election across the country for 90 days.
In the letter written by the Ministry of Interior to the Election Commission Pakistan, it has been stated that a political party may try to occupy the capital, between October 12 and 17, which coincides with the date when the election is to be held.
In order to maintain peace in the capital city, maximum deployment of the security forces will be needed. The letter further read that security forces are already engaged in providing rehabilitation and relief in the flood-affected areas.
It will nearly be impossible and highly restraining for the security forces to provide security during the by-election. Failing to place security personnel during the election will raise questions about the credibility of the Election Commission as per Article 218 clause (3), which mandates the ECP to conduct an honest, just, and fair election in accordance with the law, and that corrupt practices are guarded against.
