PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has been able to spend only 29% of allocated funds on development projects in seven tribal districts while three departments have not been able to spend a single penny since the start of current financial year.
According to available documents, KP government could not spend most of the development budget for tribal districts in the first eight months of the current financial year 2021-22. During the last eight months, only 29% of funds have been spent on development projects in the tribal districts.

For the current financial year 2021-22, Rs100.41 billion was allocated for tribal districts out of which Rs28.81 billion has been spent so far. One of the main reasons behind the slow spending is lack of funds as the federal government failed to release Rs34.65 billion under the National Financial Commission Award for tribal districts.
Out of Rs2.40 billion allocated for ADP of tribal districts, not a single rupee has been released so far. Similarly, out of Rs10 million allocated for environment department in tribal districts, not a single rupee has been released so far.
The Establishment and Administration Department could not spend a single penny out of Rs34 million allocated in eight months while Housing Department could not spend a single rupee out of Rs50 million.
The official data shows that only the Industries department managed to utilise 100% of allocated fund while excise and taxation and social welfare department failed to spend any funds.
The documents show that Higher Education department could spend 5% of the allocated funds, Science Technology and Information Technology 8%, Board of Revenue 7%, Irrigation 11%, health 12% and mines and minerals 13%.
