PESHAWAR: Inter-Services Public Relations [ISPR, the military’s media wing] said that Director General ISI Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed has been appointed Corps Commander Peshawar while Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum will replace him as Pakistan’s top spy master.
The announcement came a day after a meeting of corps commanders in Rawalpindi. Lieutenant General Muhammad Amir has been posted as Corps Commander Gujranwala and Lieutenant General Asim Munir has been posted as Quarter Master General. Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed was appointed DG ISI in June 2019 after he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in April.

Prior to his appointment as DG ISI, he was the Adjutant General of GHQ [General Headquarters]. Faiz Hameed is from Chakwal. He has previously served as Chief of Staff of the X Corps in Rawalpindi, General Officer Commanding at Pano Aqil and DG Counter Intelligence (CI) at ISI. Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed has also been awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz Military Award by the President of Pakistan.
General Faiz Hameed’s name came to the fore in 2017 when Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan announced nationwide protest and staged a sit-in at the Faizabad Interchange in Islamabad for several days. Recently General Faiz Hameed’s visit to Kabul was in headlines. The post of ISI chief is considered one of the most important in the Pakistan Army. The media reported that he was leading a delegation of senior Pakistani officials on invitation of Taliban’s Shura. It was the first high-ranking foreign official to visit the Afghanistan since the Taliban took control of Kabul.
Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum is likely to be appointed as the director general of ISI. Anjum has earned the title of ‘Mohsin-e-Balochistan’ for his services in fight against terrorism in the province. Anjum is currently posts Cops commander of V Corps in Karachi.
