PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has claimed that Pakistan has become 7th country in the world to win “Gold Standard BRT Service Award” as the BRT Peshawar has achieved 97 points out of 100.
The KP chief minister’s special assistant on Information and public relations Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif told a press conference that BRT Peshawar has once again been honored with the International Gold Standard Service for its “outstanding” performance, operating unique routes for passengers, safe travel facilities and and women’s travel. Saif said that BRT has provided best facilities to every class of people, including women and differently-bled persons during its one and half year service.

Barrister Saif informed that so far only 6 countries have managed to win the Gold Standard Service Award. Saif said, “All the services of BRT Peshawar have been independently and fairly scrutinised by the international body. Several members of the organisation traveled on buses without informing the government officials and passengers.”
Barrister Saif further said that Pakistan has become 7th country to receive the Gold Standard BRT Service Award, and with this honor BRT Peshawar also set a world record for the Gold Standard Service Award with 97 out of 100 points. “Yes, so far no country has received so many gold standard service points,” the adviser said
Barrister Saif said 87 more buses would be part of the system this year that would help in reducing the rush on existing buses.
at Peshawar will be one of the three cities in the world being recognised at the 2022 Sustainable Transport Award ceremony in Washington DC, United States on 9 February.
The ADB said that Peshawar has been nominated for its “state of the art, gender and environment friendly Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) System”. The BRT is financed by the Asia Development bank and the French government.
