PESHAWAR: Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) do not want Pervez Elahi as Chief Minister Punjab.
Talking with media after his meeting with the Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq, Chaudhry Shujaat said both the parties are worried that the PML-Q will regain its strength in Punjab, if Pervez Elahi assumed the office of Punjab chief minister. He said that issues were still under discussion and expressed the hope that Elahi would wear the robe of chief minister.

Pervez Elahi is currently serving as speaker Punjab assembly due to PML-Q alliance with the ruling PTI. However, the opposition political alliance is urging the PML-Q to break the alliance as PTI has steered the country into an ending economic crisis and price-hike.
During his meeting with Siraj-ul-Haq, when Chaudhry Shujaat asked who would the JI support in the no-confidence motion? On which Haq said that new elections are the only solution to the people’s problems but his party is following the wait-and-see policy. Chaudhry Shujaat has also informed the JI chief that he has put three questions to Shahbaz Sharif regarding no-trust move and still awaiting his response.
The PML-N and the PPP had approached the PML-Q after 14 years for support overthrow the PTI government. The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the ruling coalition Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) have also held separate meetings with the PML-Q leadership. Yesterday a delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami held meeting with Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain however, Punjab assembly speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was not present during the meeting.
During the meeting both the leaders discussed the current political situation, soaring inflation in the country and the Indian aggression in occupied Kashmir. Source said that Chaudhry Shujaat urged the JI chief to lead the campaign for Kashmir and Palestine.
