Information Commission disposes of more than 100 appeals out of 265 received: NA
ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan Friday informed the National Assembly that Information Commission (IC) had disposed of more than 100 appeals out of 265 received till date.
Responding to a question during Question Hour, he said that under section 18 of Right of Access to Information Act 2017, the federal government had established the Information Commission comprising Chief Information Commissioner and two Information Commissioners on Novembers 7, 2018.
He said that the Act was passed during the tenure of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz government, but the then government failed to constitute the commission. He said that credit for formation of commission went to the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
He said that the government had released the budget of Rs70 million for the commission for financial year 2019-20.
The minister further said that the establishment division was requested for creation of 32 posts from BPS-01 to BPS-21, which recommended creation of 30 posts and the matter was referred to finance division.
Ali Muhammad Khan said that despite all the delay for approval of the proposed posts, the Information Commission was fully functional and addressing the appeals received under Right of Access to Information Act 2017. – APP
